How to Clean your Rivae Curtains

How to Clean your Rivae Curtains

Most of the time any stains on your curtain can be cleaned without taking them down. If that's the case, just use a damp soapy cloth and some water, just like any other fabrics.

If you're going for a spring clean and wondering if you can put your Rivae curtains in the washer, the good answer is: yes! All of our fabrics are designed to be machine washable for your convenience. Follow our guide below on how to wash your curtains in the washing machine for the best results and to avoid damage:

Loading your washing machine

Before loading, make sure your curtain does not exceed the maximum size and weight that your washer can take. Bear in mind that depending on the size of your curtain and the lining it can weigh 5-8 kg or more per panel, so if you have a smaller home washer you will need to split a pair and wash each panel individually.

Wash your curtains separately from other items, as you would do with delicate items of clothing. Lastly. make sure that all hooks are removed before loading into the washer as they can cause damage both to your curtains and to your machine.

Temperature

Make sure to use a cold wash. Our curtains are made from delicate materials that could shrink in hot water.

Wash Cycle

Use the delicates or hand wash cycle if you have one. Choose a spin speed of 600 rpm, or ideally 400 rpm if your machine has this setting.

Drying

We recommend hanging your curtains to dry ideally outside in the sun on a large drying rack with plenty of air flow.

Alternatively dry indoors but spread the curtains out as much as possible using drying racks, or the backs of chairs. Open a window for maximum air flow, or run an air conditioner or dehumidifier if you have one.

We don't recommend putting curtains in a tumble dryer, but if you must, use the lowest heat (or delicates) setting and run the dryer until your curtains are about 90% dry (this is usually the "iron dry" setting) and then hang them to dry fully.

Ironing

Finally, it's always a good idea to iron your curtains while slightly damp. After air drying, or tumble drying, use your iron on a low heat setting and iron on the back side. Work lengthways and keep the fabric gently stretched out while ironing.

A Great Professional Clean

If you want to cheat and get perfectly cleaned curtains without the effort, just take them to the dry cleaners :)
